ANY
QUESTIONS? NONE ON THE ISLAND.
With
convincing victories by both Garden City and Massapequa, Section 8'S top spots
are now settled. Knowing first place was on the line, Garden City went into hostile
territory to play Wantagh. The Trojans also hoped to maintain their #1 national
ranking in the UA/IL poll. The Wantagh Warriors came out hard in hopes to knock
off the big dogs. However, after one quarter of play, Garden City led 3-1. Fighting
back in the second, the Warriors outscored the Trojans 4-2 to deadlock the halftime
score at 5-5. It surely looked as though the second half would be a barnburner.
However, the Trojans kicked it up to the next level, shutting out the Warriors
in the second half while scoring 7 unanswered goals. Final score 12-5 GC. Garden
City was led by Liam Kennedy (4 goals) and Devin Dwyer (2 goals, 1 assist). With
the assist, Dwyer broke the school's career assist record of 193 set by Pete LeSauer
(1998-2001). Will Patrick had 11 saves in net for the Warriors. The battle
for Section 8's A division turned out to be a "laugher." Unfortunately,
for the home crowd of Baldwin, the laugh was on them. Massapequa jumped out to
a 4-1 first quarter lead and never looked back. A relentless offensive attack
piled up 18 goals on the day. Massapequa was led by Brandon Savona's 6 goals and
Dan Muller's 3 goals and 1 assist. Baldwin's Mike Ainbinder had 2 goals and 2
assists in a losing effort. Final score; an 18-6 domination by Massapequa over
Baldwin. Next Up: WHAT ELSE? IT'S PLAYOFF TIME!!!
